The Secret to Succeeding at Anything

We all set out to accomplish things and many times we fall short.

I’ve seen many business owners come and go.  I’ve seen many sales people have struggles with hitting their goals. I’ve seen sports teams with great talent fall short of what was expected of them. Personally, I have set out to do many things in the past, whether it be a starting business, getting in shape or saving money.

Sometimes I nail it. Other times I fail.

What’s the secret?

GRIT.

Yep.  That’s it.  ’Grit.’  Merriam-Webster defines it as:

firmness of mind or spirit : unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger”

We say we want something…like to not be fat anymore.  What would a ‘gritty’ attitude look like in this case?  It would mean I stand firm on my choice to not be fat.  My actions would reflect that firmness.  I would say ‘no’ to the junk and eat only good stuff. I would work out in the face of hardship…meaning when I was strapped for time or too tired or sore.  If I really wanted to succeed at not being fat I would approach it with a gritty attitude.  Period.  No excuses.  No whimpering about how hard it is.

How about the things you say YOU WANT. Do you really want them or do you just like the idea of ‘having’ them?

Do you really want to sell more? Cut costs? Delegate to your team? Have a better marriage? Get a hold on your time management? Learn a language or instrument?
Take an honest look at your GRIT INDEX and you make the call.

Your turn: How has your grit or lack of impacted your success?
